Providing daily care for a loved one or friend can be challenging and overwhelming under the best of circumstances. Recently I have noticed a lot of sharing in the rooms by those who find themselves in the position of having to care for their parents or grandparents because of old age or chronic illness.
Powerless one more time, there are many of our fellows who struggle with balancing these new responsibilities with life and sobriety. Let’s face it, addicts and alcoholics don’t like change unless we’re in charge of it! Being thrown into the position of being a Family or Friendly First Responder™ is fertile ground for resentment, anger, self-pity, fear and ultimately in 36 % of us – relapse.
Caregiving is not something one can solve by working the Steps or honoring the Traditions. Just like learning to live a clean and sober life, it is an ongoing process with a range of mountains and valleys that can be relentless. And so we offer you a soft place to fall…
Caregivers in Recovery is a place where you will be safe to vent, share information and restore your serenity without judgment. No one here will ever say “Why can’t you just let it go?” or “Get over it” because we understand. We’re been there and we’re here for you now.
Welcome to Caregivers in Recovery!
